As proud members of the communities we operate in, we are here to serve you during this crisis. In an effort to provide support beyond the individual conversations and initiatives we are putting in place with our tenants and in our communities, we have created this page to help our customers and tenants get the information they need to manage this crisis and the challenging recovery period to follow.

We are doing our best to keep you informed of all developments throughout this crisis. For updates from across our national property portfolio, look to our individual property websites.

Re-opening Statement - May 4, 2020

Like all Canadians, we at Primaris are eager for a return to a more normal way of life and for business to reopen across Canada. This is a challenging time for all Canadians, including our tenants, many of whom are small businesses and all of whom play an important role in their local community.

Many provinces have begun to ease restrictions, including Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Ontario and Quebec. We support the phased approaches being taken by each province, which allow businesses to begin reopening and employees to return to work while ensuring the public’s safety.

Though we look forward to getting back to business, the safety of our customers, tenants, employees and the public is our priority. We are following all guidelines set forth in each province’s individual reopening plan. After each announcement is made, we take immediate action to update our pandemic response plan and clearly define what measures to put in place to keep the community safe. Our tenants are important partners in this process as well, as they are responsible for following guidelines within their space. We have already begun conversations with them at a national and local level so that we can work together to enact these measures.

This situation is ongoing and will continue to evolve. We monitor it closely and are in regular dialogue with governmental authorities and our tenants so that we can remain responsive as it does. We will continue to update our re-opening plan as new information becomes available and will proceed with the utmost caution in our response to the plans of public health authorities and government.

For information on our initiatives at a property level, please visit each property’s website.

Patrick Sullivan, COO

We support the Alberta government’s decision to enforce the closure of non-essential businesses. These are unprecedented times and we believe this decisive action will help slow the spread of this virus. Effective March 27 and until further notice, all businesses within our malls are closed except those deemed essential.
The safety of our customers, employees and the public are our priority. We continue to monitor the situation closely and to work with our tenants at a national and local level to update our response as new developments occur.
All our tenants, most of whom are small businesses and all of whom are our friends and neighbours, are a vital part of our communities. Our hearts go out to them and all of you. Be well, stay safe, and hang in there. Together, we can all get through this.
Along with our properties in Alberta, enclosed shopping centres in the following provinces are now closed, except for essential services and retailers:
Ontario - Date of closure: Tuesday, March 24
Quebec - Date of closure: Monday, March 23
New Brunswick - Date of closure: Thursday, March 19
For updates, please visit individual property websites or follow them on social media.
At Primaris, we take the health and safety of our employees, tenants and stakeholders very seriously.
On March 11, 2020, the World Health Organization (WHO) declared COVID-19 a pandemic. Primaris has a pandemic policy in place and we have been monitoring the situation closely.
We have outlined below an update on how we are handling the COVID-19 issues at our malls across the country:
In addition to the elevated cleaning protocols already in place, Primaris has implemented the following precautionary measures:
Provided additional hand sanitizers at all entrances
Included information in the public washrooms for best hand washing practices
Suspended the use of strollers, wheelchairs and scooters
De-activated water fountains and water bottle fill stations
Temporarily discontinued the use of food court trays
Cancelled or rescheduled special events that result in large gatherings including March break activities
Suspended the use of children’s play areas and kiddie rides
Some helpful tips to help prevent the spread of COVID-19:
Wash your hands regularly with soap and water for at least 20 seconds
Avoid touching your face with your hands (eyes, nose, mouth)
Cover your mouth when you cough or sneeze with a tissue and dispose of the tissue in the trash
Avoid close contact with people who are sick
Monitor workplace sickness, especially those who have been overseas
Clean and disinfect frequently-touched items on a regular and consistent basis
Stay home if you are sick
We are reducing our mall operating hours on Monday March 16, 2020. Please visit our property websites for updated hours of operation.
